All dance schools
should now be
child safe
organisations

Is Yours?

The massive lack of governance of the dance training industry leaves many of our young people exposed to risk including verbal, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, bullying, sexualisation and discrimination.

Though we remain unregulated as an industry the Government has now released compulsory minimum Child Safe Standards and this is a huge step forward for our industry. Child Safe Standards aim to keep children safe from child abuse when they access services or activities provided by organisations.

What Do We Do?

AWARENESS

We aim to promote a public conversation on child abuse in dance schools. Keep Kids Safe In Dance ambassadors aim to promote the word that CHILD ABUSE OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the dance environment.

EDUCATION

We educate the industry on the compulsory minimum child safe standards. Studio owners, staff, teachers, parents and students are all affected by these standards… we aim to share information and resources on the standards and support you to understand, uphold and enforce them.

OUTREACH

We visit dance schools and organisations that deal with children and analyse their current business practices and policies. We then assist in the implementation of the standards into organisations including training and required resources.

TRAINING

We run workshops for studio owners, teachers, students and parents around child safety, wellbeing, positivity, mental health and the child safe standards in dance.

The Keep Kids Safe in Dance Mission

01. Promote and support

institutions and teachers that strive to provide environments where kids are safe to learn, grow and thrive in dance.

02. Educate

institutions and teachers of the issues surrounding the training of young people in the dance industry and the environments in which they learn.

03. Provide guidance

on implementing the compulsory minimum child safe standards in the dance industry to keep kids safe in dance.

How to become a child safe organisation in dance

To become a Child Safe Organisation, dance schools need to implement the new minimum child safe standards into their business. Many schools will already have some elements of the standards embedded in their business, some schools will need more help and support.

Keep Kids Safe In Dance will spend time with studio owners to analyse their current business and suggest the changes and/or improvements they need to make. Keep Kids Safe In Dance will provide all dance specific resources for each dance school and support the implementation of these. Keep Kids Safe In Dance can support and/or provide training for staff and volunteers and can provide ongoing support to schools.

The 7 Compulsory
Minimum Standards

Keep Kids Safe In Dance aims to support those schools already doing the right thing and want to become compliant with the new compulsory minimum child standards.

Standard 1

Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety, including through effective leadership arrangements
