Child Safety In Dance Training
Studio Owner Training.
As a business owner or manager that services children, you carry a great responsibility to keep them safe. By completing this training you are committing to creating a safer environment for the children and young people in your care.
This course provides detailed training on the Victorian Compulsory Minimum Child Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Focused on dance studios, the training provides detailed and relevant resources for immediate implementation.
All participants will finish with a solid understanding of how to keep the people within their organisation safe and certification as a Keep Kids Safe In Dance Child Safe Organisation.
Teacher Training
As a dance teacher who works directly with children, you carry a great responsibility to keep them safe. By completing this training you are committing to creating a safer environment for the children and young people in your care.
With practical advice immediately transferrable to the studio, this course provides teachers with a deep understanding of their role in keeping children safe and the role of dance studio owners in Australia.
Teachers will learn about the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, the role of the studios and their own role and responsibilities as a teacher within these standards. All participants will finish as a Keep Kids Safe In Dance Child Safe Teacher.
We’re All In This Together
The dance training industry in Australia remains unregulated.
In a 2018 survey conducted by Keep Kids Safe In Dance 98.04% of respondents reported that they thought the dance industry should be regulated.
Without regulation our industry and the young people within it remain at risk.

Jackie is incredibly dedicated to the performing arts industry and the training of young people within it. Jackie holds a Bachelor of Arts (Dance & Drama), Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts Honours (under scholarship) all from Deakin University. She was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Award from Deakin University for outstanding creative product. She also holds many further qualifications including Diploma of Dance, Diploma of Musical Theatre and a Certificate IV in TAE. Jackie is the founder of Keep Kids Safe In Dance, a groundbreaking organisation that promotes safety in the dance industry through education, inspiration and guidance. Jackie leads workshops, outreach and support programs, awareness campaigns, seminars and research and development in all fields associated with safety in dance.
Her passion for the arts and audience engagement drove her to realise her dream of producing ‘Show Stoppers’ at the Historic Bank on Collins. Reviewed by Theatre people as a 5 star ‘show stopping night’ the audience is transported through a night of show stopping, heart racing, life changing musical theatre hits by some of Australia’s finest musical theatre talent. ‘Sing for Australia’ followed shortly after the debut of Show Stoppers raising $11,000 for the Bushfire relief fund in early 2020.
Jackie has trained thousands of students in many disciplines over 3 continents for 28 years. She has taught and mentored students and dancers whose credits include: Contemporary Dance Companies Chucky Move & Ballet Lab; The Australian Ballet Company; Professional Musicals; Professional contracts including Princess, Royal Caribbean & Carnival Cruise Lines, Disney Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai; Hip Hop and Commercial Dance Crews including Flawless (UK), Holloway Boyz & Girlz (UK), ZooNation (UK), Boss Dance Company, Tenacity and Scimm.
Jackie was the director of The Ministry of Dance in North Melbourne designing and implementing company policies and procedures from the company’s inception, managing staff in a HR capacity, controlling budgets and finances and leading a large team of industry experts. In this role she implemented and Directed all Full time course programs from 2008-2016 including adding 5 nationally recognised qualifications to scope, managing all student welfare, writing timetables and curriculum and engaging the community. Within this role she co-directed and produced all performances to a professional level, presenting full length dance and musical theatre works at venues such as the Crown Palladium and The Palais Theatre St Kilda. She worked closely with industry fitness and medical specialists to develop cutting edge programs that achieved exceptional results with students. Jackie mentored up to 130 full time students each year.Prior to this, she was the Education Manager at Ausdance Victoria, the Peak Body for Dance in Australia, managing a large Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This work was pivotal in the development of dance education in Victoria mentoring hundreds of teachers across Victoria to deliver a higher standard of dance education to thousands of young people.
In 2001 Jackie moved to London and worked at Holloway school as Head of dance and Drama and head of the Gifted and Talented programme as part of the senior management team. Holloway school is an inner city comprehensive school serving an ethnically diverse community in a socially very deprived area. The young people who attended Holloway School were considered challenging "at risk teens", having a varying degree of disadvantages including poor home life and unsafe living conditions, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, settlement issues including racial discrimination, bullying, learning difficulties, behavioural problems, and criminal records.Throughout her 6 years employed at Holloway school Jackie was engaged in a significant amount of professional development both internally at the school and externally. As part of the senior management team she was intimately involved in many child abuse cases and worked closely with social services, the police, families, inclusion teams and other stakeholders. Jackie went through extensive continuous training on child abuse, family violence, bullying and mental health issues in kids for 6 years. She also undertook extensive training in sports and the arts for children and how these areas can provide therapy for disadvantaged young people or those affected by child abuse.
In 2012 Jackie founded and directed the Holloway Dance Company in London, a hip hop fusion dance company that performed at many high profile events including live shows on the West End, Major London events, television and educational seminars. The company attracted extensive press and media coverage. Through the work of the company she led an outreach program with Sadler's Wells Theatre, funded by Mellon Financial Corporation and an investment through new partners, a scheme run by Arts and Business UK. The work was recognised as being instrumental in the development of "at risk teens" through dance.
Jackie instigated a number of other significant community programs with the company including; 'The Inclusion Project', young people at risk working with young people with mental and physical disabilities. A teaching development scheme, giving young people the opportunity to work productively within the community. Jackie also initiated a program to assist families with gifted and/or talented children and a performance appreciation program for families of young people involved in the Arts. In such a challenging environments this project was extremely significant and Jackie began to lead in the area of disadvantaged youth and the arts. Jackie wrote and led many workshops in this field and supported many dance teachers across London.
Jackie has extensive experience producing performance projects, working within a budget, coordinating large companies, obtaining funding and implementing marketing initiatives.
Jackie has 37 years of performance experience including television, festivals, conventions, educational events, competitions and world dance events. She has vast performance, choreographic and educational experience working with prolific choreographers and companies on various projects including Dance Theatre of Harlem, Electric Boogaloos (USA), The Ballet Boys, Mathew Bourne, Cando Co, Push, Tommy the Clown, Mark Morris Dance Company, Stephen Pelton, Dianne Reid and Kim Vincs.
Jackie has choreographed and directed countless high profile performances both live and for television including the Australian Dance Awards, the NMFC Football Breakfast (Channel 7), Breakfast with the stars, Australia’s Got Talent (semi finalist), XChange (BBC Studios UK), Celebrity Fame Academy (CBBC TV UK), Mathew Bourne’s New Adventures; performing 3 curtain raisers in a hip hop fusion for his ballets Edward Scissor Hands, Swan Lake and the Nutcracker and numerous corporate events.
Jackie has had extensive industry experience including; judge at various high profile events including Step off Hip Hop Dance Competition, member of the Advisory Board for the Nationally Recognised Qualification Diploma of Musical Theatre, adjudicating various exams and competitions, numerous contributions to dance magazines and articles, implemented preschool dance programs in Melbourne, member of the panel for the Islington Dance Teachers Network London, UK, course Advisory Board for the dance department Deakin University and Deakin Uni Golden Key National Honours Society Member.
Complementing Jackie’s passion and application in the Arts is her solid business experience. Her career to date includes roles such as Venue Manager, Sales and Marketing Manager and Functions and Events Manager for EDG (Entertainment Development Group) 1997-2001. She was involved in the development and opening of six EDG sites including travelling to New York to open two sites in Times Square and was also the training manager for Strike Bowling Bar, involved in the opening and ongoing support of 7 sites nationally.As a professional dance artist and educator Jackie believes strongly and passionately about empowering people through dance. She understands the value of empowering communities and providing the means to a voice. Jackie is extremely passionate about the development of the entertainment industry and raising young people to be positive and successful individuals within it. She works with a supportive and nurturing outlook and always strives to be a positive and loving influence on her staff, teachers and students. Jackie is immensely passionate about being the best mentor possible to all those she meets.
